The interaction or cooperation of two or more organisations, substances or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of the separate effects.
Yoshimi Futumara produces pieces of sculpture that leaves me breathless. She is a Japanese ceramic artist. Inspired by nature, her sculptures are irregular, of the Earth and biomorphic…
Futumara’s work captures and captivates me. She takes the power of the feeling behind the form and it transforms it into three dimensional objects that are alive.
I have been exploring trees recently. Tree lore, symbols, branches, twigs, leaves. Component parts of the tree that when combined, create chairs and totems. These maquettes are a way for me to investigate form, texture, colour and detail.
An evolutionary tale of self-discovery, frustrations and rewards.
Not all chairs are functional, and not all investigations a success!
I am discovering that the trick to this adventure, is to flow with whatever direction my findings take me without pushing or pulling or forcing my creativity.
